According to a study by Dr. Hingson published in Public Health Reports, 88 percent of college students admit to drinking during their college career. Of those surveyed, 41 percent admit to binge drinking, which according to the report is alcoholic drinking that results in a hangover. Studies have shown that students who drink while in college are at risk for poor academic performance, personal injury and behavioral issues.

Mom and Dad can give their child a chance to mature a bit before beginning college by sending him or her through a gap year that lets the teen travel and see the world before falling under the intoxicating spell of the college campus. With more experience of the world, young adults have better judgment and self-control when faced with life choices like binge drinking or taking drugs.

Poor Academic Performance

According to another study published by Dr. Henry Wechsler in the Journal of American College Health, students who drink increase their chances of failing classes by 62 percent. Alcohol can become a distraction and can cause students to favor attending social events rather than studying and attending class. Consuming alcohol can also have a negative effect on a student’s ability to concentrate, which can lead to less in-class participation and cause knowledge retention to diminish. This may lead to poor grades on tests and other assignments.

Social Anxiety

According to a study by Dr. Sarah W. Book published on the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism website, 18 percent of individuals who engage in binge drinking have some form of social anxiety. Alcohol can make social situations easier to manage, and thus cause a college student to favor drinking prior to interacting with peers. Combine this with a new environment and it being their first time away from their parents, and for many students their social anxiety increases. As students build a tolerance to alcohol the amount they drink and the severity of their social anxiety can increase, causing them to only function when they are drinking.

Personal Injury

According to an article written by Diana Jean Schemo published in the New York Times, drinking inhibits a drinkers’ ability to judge the severity of situations. This can cause them to engage in dangerous stunts or promiscuous sexual behavior, which increases their likelihood of a physical injury or contracting a sexually transmitted disease. Drinking can also be accelerated in the presence of peers, and cause students to become a victim of alcohol poisoning. This can lead to severe health problems or death. Students may also drive while under the influence of alcohol, which increases their likelihood of being involved in an automobile accident.

Behavioral Issues

According to a study by Ann Brownlee, MSW, students are susceptible to violent rages and unpredictable behavior when under the influence of alcohol. These behavioral issues make a student more likely to engage in illegal activity such as vandalism, and sexual assault. Brownlee estimates that half of all vandalism and sexual assault cases that occur on college campuses are a direct result of too much alcohol consumption.

With the holiday season just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about getting away. A little planning can help you save money and reduce costs while having a great time. Shopping around for the best deals, traveling in low season, and flying from an alternative airport will result in massive savings.

Just make sure whoever you book with are registered with ATOL. Here are six tips to save money on holidays abroad:

Timing Is Everything

Planning your holiday ahead and booking into a hotel that is within walking distance from the main attractions of the city will help you reduce costs significantly. Studies indicate that the best time to book is 11 months before you are due to travel. If you do not have money aside to pay for your holiday in advance, consider getting a payday loan. Unlike credit cards, payday loans have no fluctuating interest rates.

Travel at the Cheapest Times

The price of flights varies greatly depending on the day and month of travel. If you are planning to go on a holiday abroad, do a little research to find the cheapest flight from any airport. Many websites allow users to compare flight prices online. If you are on a tight budget, have a look at the instant payday loans as you’ll probably find a holiday for under £1,000 quite easily. Then consider late deals or cancellation flights where you can take advantage of the money savings in exchange for going on holiday at the drop of a hat.

Go Shopping Online

Shopping around for the best holiday deals can bring you huge savings. Most travel agencies are now operating online. With a few mouse clicks, you can easily find great deals on package holidays, flights, and hotels. Ordering multi-day or multiple-attraction passes will help you save money on those costly tourist attractions.

Stay Away from Fancy Hotels

Unless you are going on an island where there is not much to do, all you need your hotel room for is to rest at night. Do you really have to be in a luxurious resort right on the beach, or you can handle a B&B instead? In Europe, there are many cheap hotel chains with rooms for up to three people £20 a night.

Do It the Local Way

Taking dinner at a fancy restaurant may cost you a small fortune. If you want to save money when eating out, search for local restaurants and bars. This way you will reduce your expenses and get a sense of the real culture of the places you visit.

Search for Cheap Travel Insurance

Buying travel insurance online is less expensive than getting it from an insurance agent. Use a quote comparison website to obtain free travel insurance quotes from multiple companies. Select three to five quotes, compare them side-by-side, and then research the insurance providers you are interested in. Make sure you get enough coverage and check if the policy covers dangerous activities such as skiing.

There are many other things one can do to save money on holidays abroad. Check your passport at least a month before you go, pay in sterling on the plane and avoid using your credit card for cash withdrawals. Don’t forget to check the tipping etiquette of your destination and shop around before exchanging currency.

A huge reserve, streching through different countries is the largest on the continent in South Africa.

The idea must be realized with the help of Germany. It will help local people and attract tourists.

In view of existing problems, this project can be called a project of the century.

Africa is called the graveyard of unfulfilled expectations, where some challenging projects to developing countries were buried.

However, the project of the biggest nature reserve in Africa, which will extend over an area of five states, shall not be buried.

“We made a long way in Namibia, Botswana and Zambia”, – assured Philip Geltenbot of Conservation «WWF».

He also knows that because of political problems, primarily in two other countries-participants: Zimbabwe and Angola, it is a project of the century.

“We are at the very beginning,” – he said. Other experts expressed more skepticism.

SINGAPORE, August 22. Oil is getting cheaper on Monday against the strengthening of dollar, as well as due to the fact that the conflict in Libya is close to a decisive phase.

By 8:25 Moscow time, October futures for Brent crude fell by $ 2.41 to $ 106.21 for a barrel.

September futures for U.S. light crude lost $ 0.23 to $ 82.03 a barrel, reports Reuters.

On Sunday, the Libyan rebels entered the capital of Tripoli, virtually with no resistance from forces loyal to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

The Rebels are hoping to resume oil production to reduce fuel shortages and to partially restore the supply to world markets.

Before the war, Libya produced about 1.6 million barrels of oil per day, almost 2% of world production.

“You will see a relaxation in the supply of crude to the region as a result of what is happening in Libya”, – said Jonathan Barratt of Commodity Broking Services.

Lack of supplies from Libya led to the expansion of oil spread between Brent and U.S. crude (WTI).

Spread is reducing and is likely to shrink further in the light of the recovery of production in Libya, said Barratt.

Market players are waiting for speeches by FRS (U.S. central bank), Ben Bernanke, held on Friday in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where regulators and researchers meet once a year to talk about narrow professional issues.

Last year, Bernanke used the opportunity to voice the idea that FRS could support the growth buying long-term bonds. This has become the prelude to the program, which came into effect shortly after his speech. However, this year no one expects dramatic statements.

Egypt faced an emergency with air transportation caused by the ash cloud formed after a volcanic eruption in Eritrea.

According to media reports, the cloud is moving in the direction of Egypt, according to RIA Novosti.

Cairo airport is closed for flights to neighbouring countries – Sudan and Eritrea.

Flights from leading airlines of Egypt «EgyptAir» from Cairo to Khartoum and Asmara are canceled due to bad weather conditions.

Authorities fear that the cloud can cover the airport of Hurghada, and then they will have to temporarily stop flights from different countries to this resort town, which could become another blow for the tourism industry of Egypt.

Volcanic ash poses a serious threat to the air-crafts, since its particles entering the jet engines can quickly pull them down.

This continent takes the second place in area and height above sea level (after Asia) and the fourth place in population.

There is every reason to believe that Africa was the “cradle of man”, who settled out of its equatorial forests on other continents.

Africa lies between two oceans: the Atlantic in the west, the Indian in the east, closely adjoining with Europe in the North and Asia in the North-East.

African continent is made up of ancient (Precambrian) rocks, bulging in various places on the surface in the form of sheets, between which there are large cavities filled with younger sediments.

Mining industry is the foundation of African industry.

The manufacturing industry is not developed well enough and has a poorly differentiated industrial structure.

It is characterized by production, primary processing of raw materials, as well as some light industry branches.

The manufacturing industry in the region is characterized by high spatial concentration. Most of its centers are located in coastal areas.

Some countries, which are not landlocked, as well as in some sub-Saharan Africa, have rarely more than two or three centers with a relatively well-developed manufacturing industry.

Usually they are confined to the mining and places of processing of agricultural raw materials. The manufacturing industry is also located in the centers of consumption in a considerable distance from extraction of raw materials (wood processing, aluminum smelting, metal forming, processing of oil and gas).

Industrial cores of Africa are South Africa, the northern parts of the continent and the industrial zone in northern Egypt.

Industry of South Africa, one of the developed countries in Africa, works in the market of developed countries, has little to do with the neighboring African countries. Egypt, the largest center for the textile industry, has closer ties with the economies of its neighbors.

Some manufacturing industries of various African countries have global significance.

Such is, for example, chemical industry of Morocco, processing phosphate rock, which then enter the European fertilizer market as intermediates.

A group of smelters in the African copper belt (Cato Rhodesia), oil refining in Algeria, Libya and Egypt have great global importance.

Enterprises of new branches, new to Africa (ferrous metallurgy, machine building, chemical and textile industries), are usually placed where the industrial infrastructure has already existed.

The year 2009 has seen some most discouraging time in aviation history and hence the travel and tourism industry around the world. Increase in high-octane fuel prices lead to increasing airfares where high recession decreased the number of travelers to less than half. This resulted in serious losses to the airline companies. Many got bankrupt while for others it was widely believed that they would go bankrupt. Even an upscale carrier like Belleview had to cease their operations temporarily in July 2009.

Only very strong and demanded airlines could keep going during those hard times. One of these airlines was Ghana International Airline. The credit goes to the marketing plan of the airline as well as the beauty and attraction of Ghana. This airline kept on operating successfully by providing direct cheap flights to Accra. Other airlines such as Afriqiayah Airways and Egypt Airways also provided low airfares to Accra. Nevertheless, they could not be preferred over Ghana International Airlines as both of them reach Accra indirectly. Hence they took far longer to reach Ghana. Time is something very important to the travelers. Adding to this, the quality of their services could not do better than that of Ghana International Airlines. Compared to Afriqiayah Airways and Egypt Airways, Ghana International Airlines received the least amount of complaints regarding loss of baggage or delays in flights. Although Ghana International Airlines charged more than Afriqiayah Airways and Egypt Airways, through a comparison between ticket fares, time of flight and quality of service, Ghana International Airline turned out to be the most successful.

2009 also saw a lot of chaos and confusion on the airports. It was the time when things were turning out unexpectedly awful and holidays were turning out into nightmares. Many times, the connecting flights to the next airport were either not found or cancelled and the travelers had to fly back home from mid-way. While at other times, the services paid for, were never offered. Hence the world wide economic recession together with hike in high-octane prices discouraged travelers. Aviation industry world over seemed to be in a state of emergency. Inflation in travel industry was constantly rising.

The International Air Transport Association Conference was held in Kuala Lumpur July 2009. There, these issues were brought under discussion. Hike in high-octane prices, low buying power of tickets and all the problems facing the travel industry were highlighted. As a result, the travel industry saw a relief in December. Different airlines took different strategies and things got slightly better. For Ghana International Airline, it was predicted that the airline may go bankrupt and be dissolved. The prediction was proved wrong when in December too, Ghana International Airlines was one of the successfully operating airlines. It was during this time that the airline sold almost all of its economy-class tickets. Since then it is widely believed that if Ghana International Airline keeps on working at the same pace, it will soon to be a healthy competition for many other airline services around the globe.

In 2010, the taxes on ticket fares are likely to rise but not more than that of July 2009. Hence the airline is expected to survive well in this situation. Airlines like Ghana International Airline have made getting cheap flights to Africa and easy task and so, a holiday in the exotic continent.
