ThinkQuest Africa

ThinkQuest Africa (TQA) is an exciting new program in Africa which was recently launched in June 2020 under the auspices of H.E. the wife of the Nigerian Vice President and in the presence of the Honorable Minister of Education from Nigeria, in a grand launching ceremony in Abuja, Nigeria. ThinkQuest Africa a flagship program of SchoolNet Africa, is a learner-centred educational programme which promotes learning through educational website development by multi-national, pan-African teams of learners. During its first year, a total number of 709 learners and coaches from 14 African countries have registered to participate in TQA, comprising 171 teams of 5-7 members per team. These learners have found creative ways of overcoming barriers to access to computing facilities and the Internet. As a program, TQA assumes the form of a competition structured according to categories with set rules of entry and participation. The best entries in each category are awarded at a special awards ceremony. The awards and award ceremony celebrates the achievement of model African learners and demonstrates the potential of ICT in education in Africa. The awards and the award ceremony are incentives for participation by young learners in TQA and provide a digital opportunity for African learners to achieve and win prizes that would add value to their lives as learners. TQA has established an awards mechanism as an incentive for learners. Not only has it identified awards for the best websites and teams but it also hosts an awards ceremony to celebrate the work of African learners.
