SchoolNet Benin

SchoolNet Benin is a Non-Governmental Organization that facilitates and reinforces the integration and appropriate use of ICTs in Benin’s Educational System.

This is done through:

  • Supplying computer equipment to schools.
  • Networking schools.
  • Promoting Educative software (e.g via CD ROMS).
  • Promoting Internet use for Educational resources and research.
  • Training learners on basic education oriented software.
  • Developing Multimedia educational contents.
  • Via Online and Onsite training.

SchoolNet Benin’s goal is to give efficient access to knowledge by improving ICT use, and giving training facilities to educational system actors. This goal is being achieved by:

  • Creating an ICT forum of exchange and access to the educational resources.
  • Integrating and promoting the use and the creation of multimedia educational programmes in Benin’s Educational System.
  • Networking Benin’s school and academic establishments, thus gathering all the actors of the education system. 
  • Using the SchoolNet Benin Network to extend the teachings to the enclosed regions that are in need of didactic and/or quality materials.
  • Promoting and facilitating distance teaching through this same network in partnership with SchoolNet Africa, Think quest Africa and other structures.
  • Promoting the use of alternative systems software such as Linux.
  • Establishing partnerships with other structures in order to extend the project nationwide.

ORIDEV

(‘ORI’ is a derivative from the Yoriba word ‘Oritameta’, a meeting place for communication, and ‘DEV’ for development. So ORIDEV means communication for development)

 ORIDEV is an NGO located in Cotonou with the goal of promoting development through communication using ICT. ORIDEV was created as an international network called ANAIS (Advisory Network for African Information Strategies). ORIDEV has set up a training team dedicated to NGOs, schools and youth.

  The specific objectives of ORIDEV are to:

  • Increase youth, NGO and public awareness of ICT (conferences, workshops, etc.). 
  • Promote the social use of ICT by stakeholders (NGO and schools) especially through training sessions adapted to those stakeholders. 
  • Establish an observatory in order to make available useful information about ICT in Benin, in Africa and in the whole world.
  • Promote the production of electronic content in Benin.
  • Promote development through communication (especially through research and action) and carry out studies on themes related to communication for development.

SAYI CENTRE

The SAYI Centre is an organization located in Porto-Novo. It is focused on informatics, the Internet and teaching English. It aims to sensitise the various actors within the education sector to ICTs and its establishment in Benin.

The SAYI CENTRE has:

  • A cyber centre for youth ICT access.
  • Organized “open door” days on the use of the multimedia educational programmes and the Internet in teaching.
  • Trained young people in informatics and the Internet.
  •  Established a network of for inter-school communication by e-mail.
  • Worked on ICTs with the Radio Afrique Espoir.
  • Provided support and consulting with the organizations, which work on the establishment of the ICTs and the appropriation of this technology in education.
