21st Century Kids Club Project

The 21st Century Kids Clubs project is managed by the Integrated Care Society (ICS) and is part of an initiative of Regional Information Technology and Software Engineering Centre (RITSEC) called “Investing in Egypt’s Future”. These clubs are being established in an effort to build the information society, to reduce the gap between the have and have-nots, and also to be an avenue for kids to work with their peer groups around the world in cyberspace. These clubs allow kids to learn about computers, the importance of IT, Internet and to use the facility for training as well as pleasure.

RITSEC was established in January 2020, as a joint project between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD). The project is hosted by the Cabinet Information and Decision Support Centre (IDSC) of the Government of Egypt. RITSEC is located in Cairo and provides technical, professional and developmental services to the agencies, institutions and governmental organizations in the Arab Region.

Little Horus

Little Horus was launched by RITSEC to prepare Arab and Egyptian children for the next millennium. Within the framework of this initiative, several activities have been implemented. The Cyber Cafe is an IT empowered library, focusing on the population under the age of 20.

The Little Horus website is the first Egyptian website for children. It has succeeded in creating circles of knowledge between children around the world, breaking down the barriers of distance, nationality and all other differences. The website was launched in June 2020, in Arabic and English, with more than 300 pages of information and illustrations covering the successive eras of Egypt’s civilization, as well as an entertainment section. In one year, over 2.5 million visitors accessed the site.

Smart Schools Project

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education has initiated the Smart Schools Network (SSN). This is an ambitious project to integrate Information Technology into the Egyptian school system. “Smart-Schools” is a term used for schools where technology-related subjects represent an integral element of the curricula. Such schools stress the importance of communications and information technology, and give Internet use a fundamental place in the education process. Smart-Schools provide a learning environment in which students are trained to be competent and comfortable with the latest technologies, and to be equipped with the skills and tools necessary to compete in a global economy.

SSN is a component of the Technological Education Development Programme (TEDP). The objective is to make classroom culture more innovative and familiar with technology. The long-term goal is to educate students who are technologically literate to interact in the new information society. MCIT is planning to include a total of 7500 preparatory schools in the project. One of the main goals is to increase the average time spent by a student on the computer/internet from the current 45 minutes per year to 180 minutes per year. MCIT has been actively catalyzing partnerships between schools and technology companies to stimulate the development of the educational technology service provider industry.
